PWS (L57A1)

The Protected Weapon Station (PWS) 5989 is a lightweight protected gunner’s platform designed specifically for the NAVISTAR HUSKY combat vehicle (support weapon variant). It comprises of a protected weapon station on a geared slewing ring and protected gear assisted hatch.

The PWS is designed to provide a defensive rotating weapon station with ballistic protection. The UGM that is fitted to the PWS accepts the .50in Heavy Machine Gun (HMG) and 40mm Grenade Machine Gun (GMG).

The weapon station is driven by a simple manual gearbox mounted on the LH side of the traversing ring. The gearbox may be disengaged to allow the gunner to quickly swing the weapon station through large angles of arc onto the target area. Fine final adjustment in traverse can then be made using the gearbox.

The hatch is gear and spring assisted, permitting the operator to both open and close the hatch in a controlled motion, without undue physical strain.

Protection is via armour panels, which can be removed and replaced in the field, aiding repair and reducing down-time.

The PWS is fully supported with a suit of Technical Publications and NATO codified components.
